In the Workplace

The leading cause of death for women in the workplace is homicide.

Approximately 18,700 incidents of workplace violence are committed annually in the United States by an intimate partner: a current or former spouse, lover, partner, or boyfriend/girlfriend.

If you are a victim:

  • If you have a Protective Order, submit a recent photograph of your abuser and a copy of the protection order to your supervisor, the legal department, chief of security and local law enforcement.
  • Provide a picture of the perpetrator to reception areas and/or security.
  • Notify your supervisor of your situation.
  • Identify an emergency contact person should your employer be unable to contact you.
  • Review the safety of your parking arrangements.
  • Have security escort you to and from your vehicle.
  • Request a change of work site, job assignment or work schedule
  • Request all information about yourself to be kept confidential.
  • If possible, have your telephone calls screened.
  • Work with your supervisor, health and safety officer, security staff, and the Employee Assistance Program.
  • Document all incidents that occur at work with the batterer.
  • Call "911" if in immediate danger.

Domestic Violence victims lose nearly 8.0 million days of paid work each year - the equivalent of more than 32,000 full-time jobs and nearly 5.6 million days of household productivity.*

Almost 1.8 billion dollars of work place productivity are lost annually due to Domestic Violence.*
