AVDA’s 2011 “Home Safe Home” Gala to feature cuisine from Houston’s Finest Chefs

Plans are already underway for AVDA’s annual renowned gastronomic event, The 2011 Home Safe Home Gala. This year’s event takes place on Wednesday, October 5^th, 2011 from 6:30p- 9:30p and will be hosted by Becca Cason Thrash and John Thrash.  Co-chaired by Yvonne and Rufus Cormier and Barbara and Rael Elk, the 2011 Home Safe Home Gala promises another spectacular evening of fabulous food and fun and the unique opportunity to meet and mingle with some of Houston’s premier chefs. Home Safe Home was created in response to the tragic 2005 murder of Della Isaacs, a chronically abused woman who made $500/year too much to qualify for state-funded services. She was denied assistance on a Friday and was strangled by her husband on Monday. Working-poor women like Della are at the highest risk of dying at the hands of their abuser. Funds raised from the Home Safe Home event provide discretionary funding allowing AVDA to take any case where the risk of fatality violence is high and the victim cannot afford a private lawyer.
